3. Can I replace the lenses that are in my tail
lights and front lenses or do I have to replace the whole assembly?
Unfortunately the whole assembly must be replaced. The only ones that
can be replaced separately are the reverse lenses on 200's and 700's
from 1980 on and all 240 front lenses. back to top
4. Can you ship out my parts today?
We can almost always ship your parts the same day if you call or order
before 2pm Eastern Standard Time. back to top

6. What does after-market mean? What do Original
Equipment (OE) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) mean?
Volvo Corporation uses certain manufacturers to supply the parts for
their cars, these are called Original Equipment Manufacturer Parts or
OEM parts. Original Equipment Parts (OE) are the OEM parts that Volvo
Corporation has labeled with the Volvo name and put in a Volvo box.
After-Market parts are parts that are made by another manufacturer,
but the part is essentially a replacement part for the original equipment
part.
The after-market part may be of lessor, equal or better quality than
OE or OEM. In our 30 years of experience repairing Volvos, we have learned
which after-market parts are as good as, or sometimes better than OEM
parts. We don't sell the after-market parts unless they are of equal
quality or better quality than OEM. We also sell many OEM parts. Our
prices of OEM parts may be higher than after-market, but will always
be lower than suggested Volvo or list price. back to top
7. Why do you tell me the list price? What is it? And what is the price
that I pay?
List price is Volvo's recommended retail price. Many of our customers
like to know the list price. When we quote you our prices we often give
you the list price to make price comparisons. Volvo dealerships usually
sell Volvo parts at or above list price. back to top
8. What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and Novus/discover. Or you can mail us
a personal check, money order or certified check. If you send a check
please be sure to include detailed information including your name, the
parts you need, the model, year and engine style of your Volvo, your shipping
address and a daytime telephone number. If you are sending a personal
check please include your drivers license number. Your check will need
to be approved before we send you the part. back to top
9. What is the cost of shipping?
The cost of shipping depends on your location and the size and weight
of the parts that you purchase and if the part needs special handling,
for example moldings need to be shipped in a special box. Cost of shipping
also depends on how fast you want the parts. You have four choices: 1)
next day air, 2) two day air, 3) 3 day ground or 4) regular ground. back

10. What is the method of shipping?
We use UPS. Some of the parts we sell are too large to be shipped by UPS,
such as large body parts need to be shipped by truck. back

11. I live very close to your shop. After I place
an order, can I pick it up?
Yes, you can pick it up. Please be sure to order the parts first, because
some of the parts may need to be brought from a warehouse, ordered or
shipped from another store. back to top
12. Do you have an inventory?
Yes, we have large inventories at each of our stores. We can get you just
about any part for your Volvo that you need. The only exceptions are parts
for older models for which the parts are no longer manufactured and some
after-market accessories. Although, we do have some used parts for the
older model cars. Sometimes we have to get parts from a warehouse, order
parts or ship from store to store, so be sure to call us and make sure
we have it before arriving to pick up a part. back to top
13. I need brake pads for my 700. How do I know
which pads I need?
From 85-87, Volvo used a one piece hub and it is not possible to separate
the hub from the rotor. You need to know if the rotor is 10.5" or
11.5." And you need to know if you have Bendix or Girling pads. back
to top
14. Can you ship parts to other countries?
It is possible to ship by UPS. They have express (1-2 days shipping),
expedite (3-4 days) shipping and UPS ground service (4-7 days) shipping,
these times may vary depending on your location. In addition all duties,
taxes and brokerage charges that your country levies are your responsibility.
Your government will assess these charges when the parts enter the country,
we don't know what the charges will be. You can call your country's governmental
office that handles duty charges and ask them their estimate of what the
charges will be. They will need to know what the package will weigh, what
its dimensions are, what its value is, and exactly what the contents are.
Parts must be charged on a VISA, Master card, or American Express card.
Parts sent internationally are not returnable. back to

15. What is a core or a core charge?
Rebuilt parts are sold, almost always, with a pre-arranged agreement that
"the core" is sent back to the company that sells the part.
The core is your old part that you remove from your car. The core is sent
to us so that it can be rebuilt and resold. When we sell a rebuilt part
we charge a "core charge" in addition to the cost of the of
the rebuilt part. The core charge is then returned to you when you send
your old part to us. back to top
16. Do you guarantee your parts?

17. Do you have used parts for older Volvos?
We also have a large inventory of used parts but we have few of the older
Volvo parts left. We have every new part for Volvos that is still available
through Volvo and through after-market. back to top
18. Would buying from you generally be cheaper than
buying at the dealer?
Yes, we sell our original Volvo parts 10%-30% below list price. Dealers
usually sell above list price. We also have high quality aftermarket parts
that are approximately 50% below list price. We invest a lot of energy
into purchasing at a low cost. We also are able to purchase larger quantities
at a lower price. Because we have three stores we are able to purchase
large quantities of parts at a substantial discount. back

19. My friend says that Volvos have their headlights
on permanently. Is this true? (I don't believe him...)?
Sorry to say Arron, your friend is right, but only on the newer Volvos.
They are called daytime running lights and they are a safety feature and
other auto manufacturers are now following in Volvo's footsteps, as usual.

20. Why is there a difference in the warranty for
over the counter parts and parts purchased in your service department?
We give a one year warranty on over the counter parts. In the service
department we give a two year warranty on parts and labor. One exception
is, Volvo re-manufactured parts only have a one year warranty even if
purchased in the service department. Why? We feel confident with
our many years of experience with parts sales and service and have come
to know how long we can rely on parts that we have selected and installed.
And we've decided to extend the warranty beyond that of the manufacturer's
warranty to demonstrate to you our confidence in our service. back
to top
21. Why are the prices of parts different for over
the counter parts and for parts in the service department?
Having over the counter parts and a service department that sells parts
can be a source of conflict. It can be difficult to understand why there
is a difference in price, because afterall a part is a part. The problem
is that the pricing structure for service departments has evolved to include
a mark-up of parts prices that compensates for the high cost of labor.
The market dictates our prices and in order to remain competitive and
profitable we need to use the same pricing structure as other shops.
The price of parts in the service department also includes re-installation
of the parts if there is a problem. back to top
22. Is Swedish Engineering an independent shop? What is an independent shop? And what exactly is the difference between an independent shop and a dealer?
Swedish Engineering is an independent shop. An independent shop is a business that is not affiliated with the vehicle manufacturer. For example, a volvo dealership is a business that must follow the rules and regulations dictated by the manufacturer, in this case, Volvo Corporation.
Dealerships are often owned by individuals, even so, they must follow certain procedures in order to maintain their dealership status. A dealership's primary business is selling new cars.
Usually the primary business of an independent shop is service and/or parts sales.
Technically a dealer is a someone who sells something and in this case it is cars. An independent repair shop may sell used cars and would be a used car dealership, but not affiliated with the manufacturer.
Swedish Engineering is listed as a dealer on the IPD website. We are a dealer for IPD because we sell IPD products. back to top
