CORKY ZARON - Employee
profile
Harry Zaron, known to us as Corky, began his automotive career in 1973,
at Sam Goldfarb Import Cars. From there Corky began working at Joe Dwyer,
a Volvo Dealer of Excellence in the Detroit area. He began there in 1977
and stayed there for 15 1/2 years.
At Joe Dwyer’s, Corky worked as both the Service Manager and Parts Manager,
and, “sometimes at the same time,” he says. He also spent his last two
years there selling Volvos. Altogether a Pretty well rounded Volvo experience.
He is very proud of his accomplishments at Joe Dwyer. He's been to most
of Volvo's Parts and Service schools. While he was there he received the
highly esteemed Horizon award for his accomplishments and was named the
#1 Volvo Parts Manager in North America. The recipient of the award must
have outstanding performance in the following areas: customer satisfaction,
managing parts stock, meeting sales objectives, and must obtain a high
level of achievement in Volvo classes, that is 90% or better on test scores.
While Corky was there, Joe Dwyer always rated in the top 10 Volvo dealerships
in the country for customer satisfaction.
Although Fiats are the love of his life, Corky has come to, “love and respect
the quality built into Volvos.” He defines Volvo as “the standard of the
industry,” and, “I don’t think there is anything quite like a Volvo for
safety and structural integrity.”
After 15 successful years at Joe Dwyer, Corky decided to move on and spent
a couple of years selling cars for John Colon in Pinckney, Michigan.
After which he worked in the service department at the Saturn dealership
in Ann Arbor, Michigan for two years.
Finally he, “found a home,” at Swedish Engineering, he says, “I feel like
I died and went to Volvo heaven.” Employees at Swedish Engineering are
given a lot of control, and have a lot of input into the future of the
company.
Unlike other auto service businesses and dealerships, Swedish Engineering employees
tend to be happier with their jobs. “That’s why I like working for here
I have a lot of responsibility and I like that.”
Corky has two children, Larissa and Travis. "They are both on the
honor role," gloats an obviously proud father. Both are very active in
a variety of sports and activities. Travis also skates and is into skateboarding.
Local customers see Travis occasionally working at Swedish Engineering
helping out around the shop. Larissa is an accomplished Equestrian.
Larissa, a real “car buff,” is very knowledgeable about Volvos. She's
had her eye on Corky’s 1984 240 since she was 10 years old. She’s been
telling him “the 240 is going to be my car when I start driving.” Corky's
response, “she was right, I can’t think of a better car for her to start
out in.”
Corky's boundless energy is due, no doubt, to his active lifestyle. He
keeps himself busy in his off hours doing some serious skating. He skates
for a team in Brighton called the Sprinters. He has rated well in meets
in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana at 300 meter races and 10K's.
